Mission Trip 2009
A Defining Moment
by Rev. Jeff Grote

This was my 6th trip and a transition occurred.  This year my focus turned from the pump installation to the villager's joy and gratitude.  What made the transition possible is the constant growing knowledge, skill and competence of the people who are the heart and soul of MMM - the workers.

My goal of a perfect installation transformed into sharing a moment of laughter with each village.   I am of the opinion that no experience on earth comes closer to that which awaits us in heaven than sharing a moment of laughter.  in that moment at least self is blended into a harmony of joy.

The defining moment for me occurred when I turned around and saw her.  She was embracing the pump in a giant hug, as if she was embracing life.  In reality she was.

Her hugging of the pump stood symbolic for me of all MMM is: love for humanity, love of God - genuine love that is shared between villagers, donors, worker, volunteers, and sponsoring organizations.
